Well if there is some people who stood up for me like my mom and dad they always stood up for me. Well yeah I could let others decide my future but only if it's the right thing. Because imagine like someone you don't know and it could be your enemy or a stranger and they told you to do stuff that would be a good future. You think it was right well your wrong because you don't see the person every day or so. So that is the reason why only let the others who stand up for decide you future not others who would threaten you and trick you.
Also in the book after the tripods came. People lots of other people were enslaved, poor and capped and it was all because of the tripods. The world was lead by the tripods. I think in the past it was beautiful and peaceful but in the future the tripod controlled everything. So the people were like this because it wasn't the peoples fault that their future became like this. It was the tripods they decided which is better in the future a beautiful and peaceful life or sarcastic and bitter life. So when the tripods made their decision
